Poor Dave!

I heard David Lee Roth this morning on the radio at WBCN-FM in Boston, but gone were the background music and two of his side-kicks: Animal and Brian Young.  CBS Radio had suspended him for two days and forced him to do a traditional radio talk show.

I can hear my boredom sense tingling right now.  I grew up listening to music whenever I turned on the radio in the morning back when I was a kid in Washington DC (this was back in the early 1980s when Howard Stern was at DC101 FM).  I was never used to the talk format at all.

I'll keep listening anyway and see what develops from this.

I did feel sad for David.  He sounded so depressed.  I even listened to him on my small radio at my desk at work this morning, instead of listening to Charles Laquidara's 9 AM show called "Back Spin" on WBOS-FM.

Where In The World Is David Lee Roth?

When I was up this morning, I didn't hear David Lee Roth on the air.  I instantly wondered if he had been replaced because I've learned that his ratings are going downhill rapidly.

Turns out that he's sick and will be back on the air in New York on Friday.  I love listening to his show because he is one of my favorite singers.  Although he's not a trained broadcaster, it's interesting to hear what he's saying (and I love the music in the background).  Of course, I don't have to agree with anything he says.

Did you notice on the left side of my blog who my favorite disc jockeys are?  They all happened to be morning disc jockeys I've listened to in the past.

What Would John Lennon Say About This?

I've heard that Yoko Ono, John's widow, is not happy with this scheduled pay-per-view event.

Double Feature: Public Enemy & The Bad Seed

Two latest Netflix rentals I had watched the previous weekend were James Cagney's Public Enemy (1931) and The Bad Seed (1956) starring Patty McCormick.   I enjoyed watching both movies.

I usually get one DVD at a time with Netflix, but a couple of weeks ago my rental copy of Public Enemy was never delivered to me at all.  Instead, whoever got it in their mailbox sent it back to Netflix.  When I got an e-mail from Netflix that they received Public Enemy back, I called them immediately.  They were gracious enough to sent it back out to me, despite the fact that they just shipped out The Bad Seed already.  So I watched them back-to-back when I got them.

Public Enemy is the movie that made James Cagney a star.  Being one of the people who love  to listen to audio commentaries and watch the special features on DVDs, I loved what I learned about James Cagney's first starring role.  Originally, he wasn't the first choice to play Tommy.  He was first picked to play Tommy's best friend, Matt.  Edward Woods was supposed to play Tommy, but the studio changed their minds two weeks before they started shooting because they saw Cagney doing another movie called "The Millionaire" where he was upstaging the lead actor in every scence he did.

Another interesting thing was that the book that Public Enemy is based on is really called "Beer and Blood."  Obviously, Public Enemy was a more appealing title for a movie drama.

The Bad Seed was the movie that made Patty McCormick famous at the age of ten.  She starred in the play version which is also based on a book which has the same title.  Other actors from the play also starred in the movie.   Patty did the audio commentary with another person (I can't remember his name at the moment because I don't have the DVD in front of me at my computer desk.  I still haven't mailed it back yet.) and gives a lot of behind-the-scenes info in the making of the movie and the play.  The ending of the play is different from the movie ending.

Patty is still working as an actress while James Cagney passed away back on March 30, 1986, from a heart attack.

Great movies.  I really had to comment about them in this blog because I loved watching these movies when I was a kid, and it's nice to know that I still enjoy them.

A Vision of Vines

The Vines are back with a new album called "Vision Valley" due out on April 4, according to Rolling Stone Magazine.  The lead singer, Craig Nicholls, was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome back in November 2004.   Although they have no plans for a tour right now, they are still working on more songs.

Sounds like AS spirit.

Safety Day is Tomorrow!

In Ohio, the Lawrence County Asperger's Syndrome and Autism Group will be training emergency personnel on handling people with autism spectrum disorders during a crisis situation.  The event called "Safety Day" will take place at the Proctorville Community Volunteer Fire Station.  The purpose is to make emergency personnel aware of how people with autism spectrum disorders react in emergencies because of their delicate sensitivity to sounds, smells and lights.

Sounds like a great idea.

Dance, Baby, Dance! Yowsa! Yowsa! Yowsa!

The new book, My Baby Can Dance, by Steven Gutstein is now out.  It tells of stories of families with children with autism.  Find out how their lives changed and what challenges they faced.

Sounds like a good read.

Up and Running Again

I had problems with my eMac late Saturday night around 1:30 am when the computer crashed after I closed all my applications.  When I rebooted, a different desktop appeared instead.  That really stressed me out.

Fortunately, Computer Geeks were able to fix what was wrong last night.  What a relief!

Jamie from that company just called me and asked me how everything went last night, and I told her it was great.

Thanks, Computer Geeks!

It's been an exhausting week.  I had a terrible sinus headache on Sunday and couldn't do anything but what the audio commentaries for "The Public Enemy" and "The Bad Seed."  I'll write about those two movies later this week.

Right now, I just want to check e-mails and surf the net.

Ellen Explains Asperger's

I just located the new article, Asperger's Explained, by Ellen Notbohm, author of "Ten Things Every Child With Autism Wishes You Knew."*  She explains what autism is.

Thanks for your help, Ellen.

J-Mac Meets W

Jason McElwain aka J-Mac, the basketball manager with autism, met with President George W. Bush recently, as reported by CBS News.  The President is also a fan of the 17-year-old Rochester native who recently scored 20 points in three minutes at the end of a basketball game.

I wonder if J-Mac taught W how to shoot hoops.

Bancroft Memorial Library Wins a Grant to Promote AS Awareness

The Bancroft Memorial Library has recently won a grant to fund awareness about Asperger's Syndrome.   The funding is for educational programs by special education consultants to help educators and parents learn more about Asperger's.

Everybody is getting into the AS awareness phase.

Project Independence

Project Independence and its upcoming Ride For Autism event are located in California to help families with autistic children.  This is another organization raising the awareness of autism.

Congradulations, Ryan!

A special Outside In Congrats to 19-year-old Ryan Robinson who is raising awareness of Autism.  Ryan is a member of TEAAM, an acronym for Together Enhancing Autism Awareness in Mississippi, which is a nonprofit, volunteer organization.

Thanks for your help!

Another AS person out there Promoting Understanding of AS

Fellow AS person from Maine named Barbara Kring is doing her best to promote the awareness of Asperger's Syndrome.    Good Luck!

I Didn't Have To Go To The Library Today

My computer is up and running again.  Constintine from Computer Geeks came here this morning because he couldn't come to my condo Friday night due to a scheduling mix-up.  He put in a new hard drive and installed all the old software for my programs and internet browsers for me.

Now, I have the rest of the weekend to re-learn how to use my eMac after not using it for a month.

The Artful Dodger Couldn't Dodge Cancer

I was sad to learn about singer/actor Jack Wild passing away from cancer last week.  He played the Artful Dodger in the 1968 movie called "Oliver!" that won the Best Picture Oscar.  I grew up watching the movie.  I even watched the TV show "H. R. Pufnstuf" when I was a little kid back in the 1970s.

Back in January of this year, I was watching "Oliver!" on DVD (courtesy of Netflix).  I really enjoyed watching that movie again.

Consider yourself at home in Heaven, Jack!

Friday On My Mind

Last night, I waited for two hours for Costintine from Computer Geeks to show up at my condo to fix my eMac.  Unfortunately, he wasn't able to come over to my place at all.  According to Jamie, his supervisor, he was at another computer appointment that took longer than anticipated.  It seems that someone else's computer was in worse shape than mine.  I had no choice but to reschedule my appointment for Friday night.  Time to cross my fingers again.

So here I am still without the use of my home computer.  Today at work, the whole computer network went down ten minutes after 2 PM.  Nobody in the whole office could use their computers.  The good news was that we were allowed to leave work early.

Still Stuck With Being Sick

Last Tuesday night, February 28, I went home from the library and felt very sick.  It was hard for me to get dinner ready for myself.  One of my cats, Cap, wasn't in the mood to eat that night either and kept to himself.  Storm, on the other hand, was full of energy and was in both of our faces wanting to play.

During the night, it was hard to sleep, thanks to my cold and the fact that Cap woke me up at 3:30 am wanting to eat now.  His hunger returned at the wrong time.  When it was time for me to get up and get ready for work, I fed him and Storm their food first before I fixed my breakfast.

After I was done eating, I felt nausea and dizziness.  I also felt chills going through my body.  I got back into bed and stayed there.  I called my manager to let her know that I wasn't coming in for work that day.  I spent the whole morning underneath the covers in my bed shivering, coughing and sneezing.  Eventually, I felt better in the afternoon.

Thursday, I did go to work and made it throught the day.  That evening, I went shopping for more medicine and other stuff I needed for myself and my cats.  I took two Sudafeds while eating dinner.  That made me feel better.

I am feeling better now although some traces of being sick is still there.  At least, it's not getting in my way now.

Another Mile To Go

The technician who looked at my eMac last weekend will be returning to my condo on Tuesday, March 7, to give it a new hard drive.  So I have to keep my fingers crossed a little bit longer.  Soon, I'll be able to do my blog entries at home once again.
