A new 30-minute procedure where a doctor inserts three implants to stiffen the soft palate can help people with Sleep Apnea sleep easier. It sounds better than hooking oneself up to a CPAP machine every night. The surgery is called the Pillar Procedure.

A friend of mine has SA. I've seen the machine he hooks himself to. I have a weird thing happen when I sleep. I don't know if this is sleep apnea or not. Sometimes, if I am sleeping on my back, I wake up with the sensation that I can't breath. (I actually can't temporarily.) Saliva, pleghm, or whatevr is stuck in my throat. I exhale strongly, and then I am OK. Is this sleep apnea, or is it something else?
