The Cosmic Muffin is Now Part of The Cosmos.
Last Wednesday, longtime radio personality/astrologer, Darrell Martinie aka "The Cosmic Muffin," lost his three-year battle with cancer. Tributes from his fellow WBCN co-workers, Charles Laquidara and Steven Strick, are heartfelt and sincere. Martinie started his career back in the 1970s doing horoscopes on the air for the Big Mattress, the morning radio show at WBCN hosted by Charles Laquidara. After Laquidara retired in 2000, Martinie continued to broadcast his zodiac forcasts until June this year. He was heard all across the East Coast from Portland, Maine, to Miami, Florida.
I had the pleasure of meeting Darrell when I was volunteering at WBCN during the mid-1990s, just before Charles Laquidara moved his show, The Big Mattress, over to WZLX in 1996. He was very kind and very helpful to me when we talked about the Zodiac. Also, I loved the sound of his voice.
You will be missed, Cosmic Muffin. Over and out.
Please, check out the articles about the passing of Darrell Martinie in the Daily Item, the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald.

It's Alive!!!!
Sunday night, I looked at my Swach watch and saw that the third hand (the one that counts the seconds) was still moving. I was still feeling sick and wondered if I was just dreaming.
This morning, I looked at the watch again. It's still working. I reset the time and went to work wearing. So far it hasn't stopped. It's not dead at all. The watch people I talked to Thursday night said that my watch was dead because the old battery was still working when they tested it. The watch didn't work when they put a new battery in, but now the watch is working with the old battery.
What a resurrection!

Stephen Shore's Next Speaking Gig!
AANE's Stephen Shore will be at the University of New Hampshire's Summer Autism Conference in August to talk about living with autism. Stephen is the author of the book called Beyond The Wall. I recommend that you check this out and be enlightened.
Oedipus Wrecked!
I'm taking a sick day today because I felt ill all weekend. So here I am surfing through Google searching for the latest radio news. I just found out that my so-called former boss at WBCN (I was just a volunteer there from 1994-2000), Oedipus, got canned from CBS Radio recently. It was only two years ago that Oedipus got fired to WBCN-FM as program director. Then, CBS hired him shortly afterwards to be a vice-president of programming in their company.
CBS Radio has been doing a lot of layoffs recently. Looks like David Lee Roth will have a lot of company on the radio unemployment line.

I'm So Tired!
It's been a busy week for me. I've been having those a lot this summer. I was busy attending something away from my condo every night this week. Last night, I was on a Harbor Cruise. The band playing was called Strangefolk. I was very tired that I didn't bother to dance.
Thursday night, I saw a free concert done by Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians, courtesy of WBOS. I ran into afternoon disc jockey, John Laurenti, who was the former host of WZLX's Breakfast with the Beatles. I'm really glad that he remembered me. He even saw me at the Ringo Starr Concert the night before.
It's unfortunate that I haven't had time to make a lot of entries into this blog during this week. At least, I wrote about the Ringo Starr Concert.

My Watch Died Last Night at the Ringo Starr Concert!
I had a great time seeing Ringo Starr in concert at the Bank of America Pavilion last night. The weather was good, not humid and terribly hot like the last few days. It was only after the concert that I noticed that my Swach Watch wasn't working.
I just assumed that it needed a new battery. When I went to the Alpha Omega booth at the Pru Center, I learned that the watch was dead. The battery was fine.
I've had this black colored watch longer than I had my car and my cats. I bought it in the fall of 1991. I've been through a lot of things with this watch, including two car accidents. The original band for this watch broke in the car accident I had in December 2004. It matched a lot of my outfits. I feel naked without it.
RIP Swach Watch

Sinuses Story
I was googling for recent news stories when I came across this informative article about sinuses. With my recent problems with my sinuses, I found this to be very interesting and helpful to me. I am currently on antibiotics to reduce the infamation in my right sinus.

Mayor Menino Was in The Deadly Tunnel an Hour Before!
This afternoon, I was walking into Shaw's in Brighton when I passed by the newspaper stand and saw a picture of Mayor Tom Menino of Boston with the quote "It Could Have Been Me" in big black bold letters.
I also got hysterical seeing that headline. I put the paper into my shopping cart and proceeded to shop. After I got home, I immediately pulled the newspaper out of one of the shopping bags to read about the mayor's close call. He rode into East Boston in his police-driver SUV to visit friends of his. This was more than an hour before the 3 ton concrete slab fell down onto a car and killed Milnea Del Valle instantly.
I felt relieved that the mayor wasn't killed, but I do feel sorry about Milnea's tragic death.

Big Dig Death! Stay Away From Those Tunnels!
Earlier this week, a woman from the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston was killed when 3 tons of concrete fell on top of the car she was riding in with her husband while they were going through a tunnel to Logan Airport Monday night. It's a total mess out there. The officials (Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and other government types) have been on this as soon as it happened.
I didn't know the victim, but this is awful. The trouble with the government officials is that they don't know how to do things correctly. Most of them are more concerned about office politics that getting the job done. If they hired a contractor who was great at constructing tunnels instead of someone who has good social skills, no one would have died this week.

Happy 45th Birthday, Alfred!
Today would have been Alfred's 45th birthday. Unfortunately, he died 26 years ago of a head injury following a car accident. I wrote about it a year ago. I still miss him.
BBC Reports that Autism and Other Disorders More Common
A recent report from the BBC News website is saying that autism and other disorders are more common because they are being identified easier than before the 1990s.
When I was diagnosed four years ago, I started thinking about people I've known in my past who acted peculiar and wondered if they were autistic or had some similiar neurological disorder. I'm not a doctor so there's no way for me to know for certain if they were or weren't (I'm not in touch with a lot of them. It's hard to maintain friendships over the years). I do have a nephew who was diagnosed with ADHD when he was a toddler. Just last year, one of his doctors diagnosed him with having autism traits in addition to ADHD. Also, I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea last year.
I wonder if I'll be diagnosed with any more disorders as the years go by.

St. Louis Is Opening the Doors!
A center in St. Louis, Missouri, called Judevine is teaching life skills to people with autism and Asperger's Syndrome. They help the adults with this condition in getting jobs and living independently. This delights the parents extremely.

Wish Syd Barrett Was Still Here With Us
From my radio at my desk at work this morning, I heard the sad news of Pink Floyd co-founder, Syd Barrett, passing away in England. The disc jockey said he had died on Friday and it seems that the cause of death might be diabetes-related.
I almost felt like crying because Syd had a difficult life after he left Pink Floyd in the late 1960s. Over the years I've heard stories about his use of LSD might have caused the nervious breakdown that he never really recovered from.
RIP Syd

Ch-Ch-Changes!
I've changed the color and layout of this blog. What do you think? I was getting bored at the old layout anyway. I did a custom layout, meaning I picked the colors.
Okay, I changed the color of the text again so that others can see it. At least, I can see it. How about the rest of you out there?

Blogging Birthday! Outside In's one years old!
Happy Birthday, Outside In!
It was one year ago today that I started this. Boy, am I having fun doing this! I was determined to have more of my writing on the Internet and also inform the public about stories about Autism and Asperger's Syndrome (Autism Spectrum Disorders). I managed to keep this going for a year. I am looking forward to year two.
And away we go!

Thank You, Wellesley Hills Junior Women's Club
Dania Jekel of the Asperger Association of New England (AANE) wrote a public letter of thank you to the Wellesley Hills Junior Women's Club for their donation and 80 volunteers.
It's great that local organizations are helping AANE in rasing awareness and educating families, professional and schools about Asperger's Syndrome. The local newspapers are reporting more and more about Asperger's Syndrome on a regular basis. The more people learn about it; the better they understand us who have Asperger's Syndrome.

Where Are They Now?
Regarding the status of my three favorite DJs:
Dude Walker is doing voiceovers, commercials and the occasional acting job. Check out his website at www.dudewalker.com.
Charles Laquidara lives in Maui and does a community radio show once a week. Since January 2006, he is doing a syndicated radio show for WBOS-FM in Boston called Back Spin. His blog is www.bigmattress.com/weblog.
Joe Martelle left Boston in 1998 for Houston, Texas, to work at KLDE. Then he moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, for Sunny104 in 2000 and stayed there for a few years. He currently lives in Mesa, Colorado. He does not have a website or a blog. When are you going to join the 21st Century, Joe?

It was 35 years ago this week in France when Jim Morrison of the Doors passed away and became an icon. He's still remembered today by me and millions of Doors fans. Next year, the Doors will be getting their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

My Ankles Hurt!
I started going to the gym at work last week. It's great to exercise again, but getting my body back in shape is starting to be painful. My ankles have been hurting since yesterday morning. It's hard to move around, although I was able to go out and do some shopping at the Filene's at Belmont Center. Thanks for the discount on towels, Kathryn!
I was able to go to City Hall Plaza and see Beatlejuice perform covers of a lot of great Beatles songs. The evening was nice. No rain in sight! The temperature was comfortable. I didn't even need a sweater or a jacket. Unfortunately, I didn't have the chance to do any dancing because of my sore ankles.
I did put some ice on them when I got back home to my condo. It didn't do much good.
Another thing that has been bothering me this weekend. I don't know what's up with the counter on my blog. It was over 3,200 hits before it reverted back to zero.
It's coming up to the first anniversary of this blog. I want to make a few changes to it as year two starts. I am going to change the color scheme, but haven't decided which colors to use. During the first month of this blog, it was black and white.
So this week, I'll be thinking on what kind of new look to use.
Now, I can put my feet up and relax.
