The Autism Fruit Salad

Autism expert, Donna Williams, explains the diversity of autism in her article called "What is Autism?  Beyond the Symptoms and Stereotypes."  She describes the differences in autism/asperger's like a fruit salad.  This is an interesting read.  Please, check it out.

I know what is meant by stereotypes of people who are autistic. I am also autistic, my brother has AS, and well, people I know say I can't be autistic because I am clever??? I tell them that there are many different levels of autism, that it is a spectrum and while I am at one end, some people are at a very different end. They find it hard to take in because of the stereotypes and stuff. Even my best friends say that it is not possible that I am autistic, because I do not act like it. Well, how exactly do autistic people act? That's what I want to ask them each time they say that. I was diagnosed with autism sometime in 2005. Can't remember exactly when and my brother was diagnosed with AS in 2000/2001. He was 9 at the time. Anyway, that's all from me atm.
