Over in England at the Apollo Theater, the 1988 hit movie Rain Main has been adapted into a stage play. It stars American actor Josh Harnett (Pearl Harbor and Blackhawk Down) as Charlie Babbit (the Tom Cruise role) and British actor Adam Godley as autistic savant Raymond Babbit (the Dustin Hoffman role).
In this stage adaptation, the car trip scenes have been removed and the character of Charlie has been aged to his early 30s. The setting takes place in the present.
Playwright Don Gordon previously adapted the movie Terms of Endearment to the stage and Director Terry Johnson was the one who adapted another Dustin Hoffman movie called The Graduate for the stage in 2000. These two have combined their talents to create Rain Man, the play.
